Everyone's Launching An Online Course — Should You?

Introduction

Online education is experiencing unprecedented growth and shows no signs of slowing down. Currently valued at around $185 billion, it's projected to reach $290 billion by 2029. This surge is driven by the convenience, cost-effectiveness, and credibility of online learning. More people than ever are comfortable with virtual education since the pandemic. While there are downsides to consider, the benefits of online education are compelling. If you have valuable knowledge to share and want to reach the maximum number of people, creating an online coaching course could be the perfect solution.

Speaking personally, it's been a life changing decision to step into the online course creation world for me. Not only has it enabled me to help so many more people than I otherwise could, from so many different parts of the world, it's released financial provision for my family in a scalable way - all without consuming huge amounts of time.

However, it’s important to weigh both the advantages and potential drawbacks. Here are three reasons why you should build an online coaching course and two reasons why you might reconsider.

Reasons to Create an Online Coaching Course

1. Personal Growth

Creating an online coaching course isn't just about helping others—it's also a transformative experience for you. It sharpens your thinking, enhances your understanding of the subject, and builds your confidence. Developing a course requires you to structure your knowledge systematically, which can deepen your expertise. Additionally, you'll learn new skills such as content creation and online marketing, and you'll connect with other entrepreneurs.

I've met some amazing people on my journey, like the guy who taught me "Don't think 'I can't'. Think 'How can I?'" This one moment has shifted my whole way of processing situation. My thinking has been utterly transformed as I've gone on this journey!

Overall, this process contributes significantly to both your personal and professional growth. By the way, if imposter syndrome is holding you back, my guide to dismantling imposter syndrome can provide valuable insights. You can get it for free at therawleader.com/imposter.

2. Impact More People

One of the most compelling reasons to create an online coaching course is the ability to impact a larger audience. Unlike traditional in-person coaching, which is limited by geography and time, an online course allows you to share your knowledge with people all over the world. This scalability means you can help more people achieve their goals, solve their problems, and improve their lives. Online courses also offer flexibility, allowing students to learn at their own pace and revisit materials as needed.

I've helped people in Guam, Pakistan, Europe, the USA and the Middle East - all without travelling outside of my house!

Additionally, modern course platforms, like Kajabi, let you mix live and pre-recorded content, quizzes, worksheets, and coaching sessions, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

3. Create a Passive Income Stream

An online course can generate passive income if done right. Once you've invested the time and effort into creating the course, it can continue to sell and provide income with minimal ongoing effort. This allows you to earn money while you sleep and frees up your time to focus on other projects or simply enjoy more personal freedom. Offering different levels of courses—such as pre-recorded content with optional live coaching—can further maximize your earning potential. This scalability enables you to reach a global audience and diversify your income streams, reducing reliance on active income sources like traditional employment.

Reasons You Might Reconsider Creating an Online Coaching Course

1. It's Not a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme

Creating an online course is not a fast track to wealth. It requires time, effort, strategic thought, and marketing. If your main goal is to get rich quickly, you might be disappointed. Building a successful course takes dedication and patience, but with the right approach, it can grow and scale over time to provide a significant and life changing income stream.

2. You Hate Being on Camera

If the thought of being on camera fills you with dread and you can't overcome that fear, creating an online coaching course might not be the best fit for you. Video content is a significant component of most successful online courses, allowing you to connect with your audience on a personal level. If you’re uncomfortable on camera, your discomfort can detract from the learning experience. There are ways to minimize on-camera time, such as using slideshows or voiceovers, but you still need to be willing to grow in this area. If you're unable to get past camera shyness and are not open to trying, building an online course might not be the right path for you.
